Grinding wheat slow, on a low RPM stone chakki, is the same way farm families have milled grain for many years. The Basics

What is RPM, and why does it matter?

RPM means rotations per minute. It tells you how fast the grinding stones spin. This one thing makes the biggest difference between a fast factory mill and a slow, traditional chakki.

How to check if any atta was slow-ground

Even if you buy elsewhere, these four checks still work.

Colour

Slow-ground atta has a soft, creamy colour, not a bright, plain white.

Smell

Fresh, slow-ground flour smells mildly of natural wheat. A flat or bad smell means it's old or was heated too much.

How the dough feels

Soft, stretchy dough that's easy to knead is a good sign of gentle grinding.

If your roti stays soft even after it cools, the natural oils likely survived the grinding.

Frequently asked questions

Does low RPM milling make atta cost more?+

A little, yes. Slow grinding makes less flour per hour than a fast mill, so batches are smaller. We feel the better taste and freshness is worth it. We also sell direct, without extra middlemen, to keep prices fair.

Does low RPM atta take longer to cook?+

No. Cooking time stays the same. What changes is how soft the dough feels and how soft the roti stays — not how long it takes on the tawa.

Is stone-ground atta the same as whole wheat atta?+

Not always. "Whole wheat" tells you which part of the grain is used. "Stone-ground" and "low RPM" tell you how it was ground. You can have whole wheat atta that was still ground heated and fast. Ours is both whole grain and slow-ground.

How do I store low RPM atta to keep it fresh?+

Keep it in a sealed box, away from sunlight and heat. Try to use it within 4–6 weeks for the best taste, since it has more natural oil than heavily processed flour and can spoil faster if left open.

Can I get this atta freshly ground to order?+

Yes. We grind in small batches instead of storing months of flour. So what you get is close to the grinding date, not sitting in a warehouse for long.
